Gifted Education

In every class at Sunnybank Hills State School there are gifted and high potential students. Students can be gifted and/or have potential in a range of areas including academic, arts and sports.

In the academic areas class teachers make adjustments to the curriculum in order to challenge and engage students. If students are showing exceptional academic achievement the school, in conjunction with parents can engage processes that explore a range of creative options to best meet the individual needs of the child.
The school offers extra curricular activities including chess, robotics, Lexile Reading Challenge, and competitions (Writing Poetry, and University NSW), that all provide students with a breadth of intellectually challenging activities.

In the Arts, students may access the extensive Music Program. This provides students with the opportunities to express their musical talents through two programs;

Choral Program- includes 4 Choirs Senior Choir, Junior Choir, Boys Choir and Junior Choral.

Instrumental Program- includes the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Senior Strings, Symphonic Winds and String Orchestra.

Extra curricular activities in the Arts also include Wakakirri and the Talent Quest.

Sunnybank Hills has a sport program that provides students with the opportunity to excel in range of sports. Students who are gifted or have high potential in the sporting realm have the opportunity to compete at a range of levels from intra-school to national competition.
In 2009 over 110 students were selected for representative teams in 11 different sports at a District or Regional level.
At interschool competitions our teams have won premierships in Track and Field, Football (Soccer), Netball, and Rugby League.
