The Guidance Officer works with the Administration Team as a team member to respond to special needs in the school. Parents, students and teachers can initiate referrals to the Guidance Officer via their class teacher or a member of the Administration Team. All referrals are processed by the Student Services Team.
The Guidance Office will work with persons to:
a. identify concerns;
b. discover ways to solve the problem;
c. determine responsibilities;
d. monitor change;
e. develop a picture of how things may change when the problem is solved.
Concerns raised are usually of a behavioural and/or a learning nature. Ways to solve issues cover collaborative consultation, problem-solving, counselling, teaching, referral to out-of-school agencies and assessment.
